Helen Brooks

Painting

“In my journey to become a better artist, I have the continuing adventure of self-discovery, challenge and excitement. Every painting is a new experience, a way to voice my feelings and ideas about the beauty around me and a constant motivation to find true original expression. I consider my journey as one just begun because I will always have new ideas to express and new ways to express them.”

Helen Brooks lives in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, with her husband of over 58 years. She has two children, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. While teaching at South Pittsburg High School, she studied charcoal, pastel and oil under her friend and mentor, Bettie Wilson. Upon retirement, she studied experimental water-media under Sandra Paynter Washburn. She has also studied oil and acrylic techniques under Helen VanWyk, Janet McGrath, and Anne Bagby. She is a member of Tennessee Art League, Tennessee Watercolor Society, Chattanooga Civic Arts League, AVA, and Allied Arts in Chattanooga.
