Award-winning painter and Brooklyn NY native, Miki Boni began her career in Manhattan’s East Village drawing street portraits followed by years living and working in Mexico. While there she was greatly influenced by that country’s muralists and surrealists. She taught Perception and Painting at the University of Guanajuato while earning her Master’s degree in Fine Arts. and is one of the first American women artists whose work was chosen for inclusion in the permanent collection of the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo in the State of Nayarit. Other exhibitions include Lincoln Center’s Cork Gallery and WomanArt Galleries in Manhattan. She was listed in Who’s Who of American Women and elected to Washington, D.C’s National League of American Pen Women for her accomplishments in the visual arts. Since 2006, Boni has lived and worked downtown on the Southside, the recipient of a Chattanooga ArtsMove grant. She is known for her innovative contemporary portraits of both animals and people, which she exhibits at In-Town Gallery.

"Whoever said the world is a serious place hasn’t found the road I travel," said Boni of the paintings for her new book, Figments: Visual Magic and Tiny Tales. "This series has been described as magical realism with a touch of the surreal. By making things happen that are not normally part of our daily experience, we are asked to examine certainties about the world around us. What we need more of now is a larger helping of poetic imagination. We are in the process of an unprecedented shift in the way we define ourselves in relation to this huge, multicultural neighborhood we call Earth. It is my hope that these painted stories have the capacity to change the way we think about art…and about life."
