Welcome New Artist!
Martha Compton

Cut paper artist Martha Crampton creates art possessing a lyric line which combines with dramatic black, white, and, at times, striking color. It is a place where representation and abstraction intersect. Martha also works in charcoal, pen & ink, pastels, acrylic, encaustic, and watercolor, all of which play a part in her artistic life. “I have created a body of cut paper work,” Crampton says, “with the goal of adding a different dimension and greater richness to my artistic expression.”

Born and raised in Richmond, VA, Martha Crampton took art classes in junior and senior high school. After graduating with a degree in education from a Maryland college, she took further coursework in art as preparation for designing and teaching an elementary art curriculum. After teaching, she held various positions in the business world. Throughout her working career, she has continued her study of art with work in courses and workshops. She also participates in juried shows and art festivals.
