Roger Harvey, Wood and Pottery

Roger now works exclusively in wood but is showing some of his pottery as he often refers to his wood creations as his wooden pots.

Roger usually works with locally sourced wood that he rescues from being chipped or burned.  He often ages the wood for a year or more under conditions that cause rot to begin which produces lines and color variations known as spalting.

Roger received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin where he was also the director of the Arts and Craft Center at the student union.

He was a potter and teacher on Cape Cod before becoming a goldsmith and moving to Boston where he owned a store specializing in custom designed jewelry.  He moved to Chattanooga to work at technical development in jewelry manufacturing before returning to pottery making and woodworking.  He has been a member of In-Town Gallery since 2011
