Lori Ryan
Painting
“My paintings are about light and color. They are tiny moments when the ordinary becomes extra-ordinary. The way the light hits a flower petal or the color of a vivid blue sky. I record these moments because they are fleeting and usually go unnoticed. I paint on a large scale to bring attention to the beauty and complexity of small, everyday things. Being a painter has taught me to truly see, to take the time to observe and appreciate the natural world.”
Lori grew up in New Jersey. In 1980, she graduated from Emmanuel College in Boston with a bachelor’s degree in studio art. One year later she moved to the South, ultimately settling in Birmingham, Alabama. For the next 20+ years she worked as a graphic designer and art director. She has won several awards for her work in the advertising/ publication field.
In 2003, Lori turned her attention back to her true passion—painting. For three years she was a member, and eventually president, of Artworks, a co-op gallery in Anniston, Alabama.
In 2008, Lori and her husband moved to Chattanooga. She became a member of In-Town Gallery in May 2009. Her paintings are in private collections in Tennssee and Alabama. She has exhibited in juried shows, Art in Bloom 2007, 2009 and Mountain Art Show, 2007, both in New Jersey.
