JANE YELLIOTT
Porcelain tiles range in size from
individual tiles to murals. Jane is also known for her watercolor and pastel portraits. Jane is widely known
for her unique watercolor portraits of children. Her
curiosity about different media led her to working in oils as well as pastels. With pastels she takes an emboldened approach to
the same subject matter - always the figure, the person or animal. When introduced to
terracotta tile glazing, she developed her own unique way of handling this new medium. This led to the winning entry in Chattanoogas
Masonry in Public competition in 1994 titled Catfish Fantasy. The bench is located on Market St. between Second
and Third near the Aquarium. This later led
to a commission for the pool at the Aquarium. The
Parade of Turtles was born. In
1995 she created a life-size plywood cow for the Smithsonians new Think Tank
Exhibit at the National Zoo. In September 2004, seven large tile
murals were installed in Johnson & Wales Universitys new flagship culinary
building in Charlotte, N.C. |
