LINDA WHITE Machine quilted fabric collage made
primarily from domestic and imported silks and cottons With a degree in
Mathematics, Linda Kay White worked for many years as a computer programmer and analyst. She began quilt making in 1990 while taking time
off from work to be with her young children. She
has no formal training in art or quilting, but has learned through extensive reading and
experimentation. Her quilt making began with
the traditional style block quilt, but soon evolved into the more innovative art quilt. Linda's current
technique of machine quilted fabric collage began as a challenge to enter a collage only
art show. Being pleased with the result, she
has continued to develop this technique. Linda
begins by making a rough drawing. She then
cuts out bits of fabric, sometimes following her drawing and sometimes letting the pattern
of the fabrics dictate the exact shape to be used. When
her design is complete, she layers it on batting and a backing fabric as you would a
quilt. With decorative threads, she stitches
the layers together adding dimension and detail to the design. |
